Apply for your first Sint Maarten driving licence after successfully passing the theory and practical examinations.

The new driving licence is issued for a period of five years and shows the categories you are authorised to drive.

Your examination results are retrieved automatically from the Department of Traffic & Licensing, so you do not need to upload them.

Provide digital copies of the following documents

Mandatory

  • Valid National ID or Passport

    Photo page, clearly readable, not expired.

  • Recent Passport Photo

    White background, taken within the last 6 months.

  • Proof of Address

    Utility bill or Civil Registry extract not older than 3 months.

  • Signature Specimen

    Signed on white paper, scanned or photographed.

Optional

  • Medical Certificate

    Required only for applicants aged 65 and above or with a medical restriction.

  • Authorization Letter

    Required only when someone applies on your behalf.

FAQ Driver's License

  • Residents aged 18 and over who passed both the theory and practical examinations within the last twelve months.

  • The Sint Maarten driving licence is issued for five years and can be renewed online before it expires.

  • Yes. For identity assurance the physical card is collected in person at the office you selected during the application.

  • The digital licence is proof of entitlement while the card is being produced, but you should carry the physical card once collected.

  • An application can be cancelled before card production starts. After that the fee is non-refundable.

  • You need a valid National ID or passport, a recent passport photo, and a medical certificate issued within the last 6 months.

  • A new Sint Maarten driver's license is generally issued with a validity period determined by the Department of Traffic & Licensing.
